About Us

Many people ask what a normal school is. The term comes from the French l’ecole normale. It was coined by the Jesuits to describe the schools which were used as training grounds for teachers and means schools which set the norms. As a normal school we are closely associated with the University of Otago College of Education. This means we not only teach children, we also teach and train teachers. This means we must be up to date with all that is current in education thinking.

The school has strong ties to the local community. We host the offices of 'The Project' and have been part of its foundation as an exciting community development initiative.
