Rainbow Class

Every fortnight on a Thursday afternoon, the school flagpole is adorned with the rainbow flag to signal it is Rainbow Class day.

The school recognises the importance of a smooth transition to school for new entrants and consequently offers a regular class for 4 year olds to have a taster of school life. This class is affectionately called the Rainbow Class and has been running for a number of years. North Dunedin parents have found this class a wonderful opportunity to help their child settle easily into school when they reach 5. The class has become so significant in some children's minds that they call our school the rainbow school!

The new entrant teacher, Mrs Fiona Will, who teaches the Rainbow Class, is well known in Otago and Southland as an exemplary new entrant teacher. Mrs Will can be contacted by calling school or emailing:  fiona@nevn.school.nz

Parents are encouraged to bring their 4 year old to the Rainbow Class which is run every fortnight on a Thursday from 1.15pm to 2.45pm.

The New Entrants teacher introduces the children to the playground, the school boundaries and some basic school routines.

The classroom activities include pre-school numeracy and literacy exercises as well as art and music.

The Rainbow Class programme has been designed specifically by our junior syndicate to reflect the age and development of pre-schoolers. The class is run for those who intend starting school at North East Valley Normal and places are also available for children bound for other schools.

Contact Mrs Fiona Will for enrolment details and further information.
